Ephesians 4.15-16 reads, “15 But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body’s growth in building itself up in love.” This short passage sums up the writer’s appeal to the church in Ephesus for unity amid diversity in the first part of Ephesians 4. “We’ll Be the Hands, We’ll Be the Feet” is based on Eph. 4:15-16 and focuses on this message of the unity to be found in the diverse body of Christ. While the various parts of the body may serve different purposes, all of them are necessary for the good of the whole, and all of them function in and with the life that is offered through the heart of Christ. In recognizing this and letting ourselves be transformed and guided by God’s boundless compassion and love for all humankind, we can continually encounter new opportunities to serve as the hands and feet of Christ in the world, reaching out with that love and compassion into the spaces where it’s needed most.
