Greystone Baptist Church (“Greystone,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at greystonechurch.org. This policy explains what information we collect through this website, how we use it, and what choices you have.

What This Policy Covers

This policy applies only to greystonechurch.org.

It does not cover the separate services we link to, which have their own privacy policies and handle your information under their own terms. These include:

Realm Connect (ACS Technologies), which handles member accounts, church directories, event and ministry registrations, and online giving.
Constant Contact, which manages our email newsletter list.
YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, where we publish sermons, video, and church news.

When you follow a link from our site to one of these services, you are on their platform, and their privacy policy governs what happens to your information there. We encourage you to read those policies.

Information We Collect

Information You Give Us Directly

We collect information you type into forms on this website. That includes:

Contact and prayer request forms — typically your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you choose to write in the message.
E-News signup — your name and email address.

Submissions from these forms are delivered by email to our church office administrator. Please be aware that anything you include in a message becomes part of that email, so share only what you’re comfortable having our office staff read.

Prayer Requests About Other People

Prayer requests often mention someone other than the person submitting them — a family member, a friend, someone in the hospital. If you submit a request that names or describes another person, including a child, you are sharing their information with us. We ask that you share only what that person would be comfortable having shared, and that you have their permission (or the permission of a parent or guardian) where the request involves sensitive details.

Prayer requests are handled by church staff and, where appropriate, shared with our pastoral care team or included in prayer lists distributed to the congregation. If you do not want a request shared beyond staff, please say so in the request itself.

Information Collected Automatically

Like most websites, our web server records basic technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you view, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard server log data used to keep the site running and secure.

Cookies and Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people arrive, and where they run into trouble. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as your IP address, browser, device, and browsing activity on our site. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Our website runs on WordPress, which sets a small number of functional cookies (for example, to remember your cookie consent choice or to keep you signed in if you have a site account).

We use a cookie consent management platform to present a banner when you first visit and to record your choices. Cookies are grouped into categories — necessary, functional, analytics, and advertising — and you may accept or decline each non-essential category. Necessary cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be declined.

Your preferences apply to the analytics and embedded third-party services described in this policy, including Google Analytics, YouTube, Google Maps, and reCAPTCHA. You can reopen the consent banner at any time to review or change your choices, and you can clear or block cookies through your browser settings. We are continuing to review the cookies and third-party scripts used across the site, and this policy will be updated as that review is completed.

Embedded Content From Other Sites

Some pages include content hosted elsewhere, and loading that content lets the third party see your visit and potentially set its own cookies. This includes:

YouTube video players, used for sermons, worship livestreams, and faith forum videos. YouTube may set cookies and collect viewing data. See https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Google Maps, embedded to show our campus location. See https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from automated spam. reCAPTCHA loads on pages throughout the site and collects hardware and software information along with behavioral data from your device — mouse movement, scrolling, and similar signals — and sends it to Google to determine whether you are a human visitor. Its use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Terms of Service (https://policies.google.com/terms).

Embedded content behaves as though you had visited that third party’s website directly. We do not control what these providers collect.

We link to our Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts, but those are ordinary links — they do not track you until you click them.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Respond to your questions, messages, and prayer requests.
Provide pastoral care and connect you with the ministries you ask about.
Send our email newsletter if you signed up for it.
Operate, maintain, and improve the website.
Keep the site secure and investigate technical problems or misuse.
Comply with applicable law.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

We share information only in these situations:

With our service providers — Google Analytics for site analytics, Google reCAPTCHA for form spam protection, Constant Contact for email delivery, and our web hosting provider, each acting on our behalf.
Within the church — prayer requests and ministry inquiries are routed to the staff or volunteers who need to respond to them, as described above.
When required by law — if we are legally compelled to disclose information, or when disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of a person or to report suspected abuse or neglect as required by North Carolina law.

How Long We Keep Information

Messages sent through our forms arrive as email in our church office accounts, and we retain them as part of our ordinary church correspondence. We do not currently run an automatic deletion schedule for that correspondence.

Newsletter subscriptions are kept in Constant Contact until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.

Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period configured in our Analytics account.

If you want us to delete information you’ve sent us, contact us using the details at the top of this policy and we will do so, unless we are required to keep it for legal reasons.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold, including keeping the site on maintained hosting with encrypted (HTTPS) connections and limiting staff access to church accounts. That said, no website or email system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the internet. Please do not send highly sensitive information — financial account details, government ID numbers, or detailed medical records — through our website forms.

Children’s Privacy

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website.

Registration for children’s and youth ministry programs, and for Greystone Baptist Preschool, is handled through separate off-site services with their own privacy practices, and we expect those to be completed by a parent or guardian.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information through this website, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Choices

Regardless of where you live, you can:

Unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link in any email we send.
Ask us what information we hold about you.
Ask us to correct or delete information you’ve given us.
Opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by declining non-essential cookies in our consent banner.

To make a request, contact us at office@greystonechurch.org. We may need to ask you a question or two to confirm your identity before we act on it.

Additional Rights for California Residents

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, may give you the following rights:

Right to know what categories of personal information we collect, why we collect it, and who we share it with.
Right to access a copy of the specific personal information we hold about you.
Right to delete personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
Right to opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
Right to non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

In the twelve months before the effective date of this policy, we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (name, email address, phone number, IP address), internet activity information (pages viewed, referring site), and any information you chose to include in a message to us. We collect this to communicate with you, provide ministry and pastoral care, and operate the website.

Greystone Baptist Church is a nonprofit religious organization and may fall outside the scope of the CCPA. We describe these rights and honor these requests as a matter of practice.

Additional Rights for Visitors in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom

If you are located in the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you rights over your personal data. Greystone Baptist Church is the data controller for information collected through this website.

Our Legal Bases for Processing

Consent — for our email newsletter, for non-essential cookies and analytics, and for any sensitive information you voluntarily include in a prayer request. You may withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect processing that already happened.
Legitimate interests — for responding to inquiries, operating and securing the website, and understanding site usage in aggregate.
Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.

Prayer requests may reveal information about religious beliefs or health, which the GDPR treats as special category data. We process that information on the basis of your explicit consent, given by choosing to send it to us, and in the context of our legitimate activities as a religious organization with respect to our members and people in regular contact with us.

Your Rights

You have the right to access your data, correct it, request erasure, restrict or object to processing, request portability, and withdraw consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

International Transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers (including Google and Constant Contact) process data in the United States. If you contact us from the EEA or UK, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States, which may not offer the same level of data protection as your home country. Our providers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards for these transfers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our website or practices change. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will be noted on this page. Please check back periodically.
