At Greystone, music is ministry. It is the ministry of worship leadership; the ministry of teaching; the ministry of encouragement.
The Bible calls us to “let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs; singing with thankfulness in your heart to God.” Colossians 3:16.
To fulfill this call, we offer the following opportunities:
The keyboardists for our services are members who volunteer to play on a rotating basis. Those playing band and orchestral instruments contribute through solos and duets and accompanying the choir and congregation. We also have a Handbell Choir that meets weekly and plays in services as scheduled.
Adult Choir (High School through Adults)
Our Adult Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:05 p.m. We sing for our 11:00 a.m. Sunday service. In addition to our Christmas and Easter presentations, on several occasions, we have formed a mass choir from area churches to sing at the Meymandi Auditorium with full orchestra. The choir has recorded two premiere performances of Pepper Choplin’s Easter musicals, Once Upon a Tree and We Were There.
Youth Choir (Students, Grades 6-12)
Our Youth Choir meets on select Sunday evenings at 6pm, prior to the Sunday night youth fellowship meal and gathering. Participating students have the opportunity to sing with the Youth Choir during select Sunday morning worship services and special events throughout the year.
The Grace Tones is an ensemble of 10 – 12 adult women singing SSA and SSAA arrangements of a wide variety of music. Arrangements include music from traditional choral expressions, spirituals, gospel music, and contemporary Christian groups such as Point of Grace. We also have fun singing secular arrangements for special occasions.
In addition to church services, Grace Tones has performed for special services, retirement homes, other churches’ special occasions, holiday affairs, etc. If you are interested in joining the ensemble, please contact the director, Tim Hendrix, to see if there is an available vacancy. Members should be good readers, able to harmonize and blend with other voices, and passionate about singing & having a good time! Currently, the ensemble rehearses on Sundays, 6 – 7 PM.
We have three graded choirs, which meet on select Wednesday nights at 6:00pm. Choirs include: Preschool Choir (ages 3-5), Music Makers (K-2nd grade) and Young Musicians (3rd – 5th grade). The children sing at special services at Christmas and in the spring.
We meet on Sunday Afternoons. Our repertoire includes music on level 3-4.
